Sokoto State government spends N50 million on electricity

The Sokoto State Government has said, it has spent over N50million to restore electricity to Gada town, headquarters of Gada Local Government in Illela town, Sokoto State.

The Commissioner for Rural Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu, revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Saturday.

He said the town and neigbouring villages had been in darkness for long because electricity poles were destroyed by windstorm in 2015, and the area would soon be connected to the national grid because of the restored electricity supply in Gada town.

Alhaji Maigwandu also said that,“the entire works have been completed but the state government will next week replace the 2.5MVA main transformer in Gada, which was vandalised.

“Electricity supply will therefore be restored next week after providing a new transformer.”

He talked on socioeconomic importance of electricity in communities and appealed to the people of the state to jealously protect government properties from vandals.

The Chairman of Gada local government, Dr Abdullahi Gada, who also spoke to NAN, said that the development had brought a lot of relief to the people of the areas.

“The areas have been without electricity since 2015 and it has not been easy for our people. “We are therefore commending the state government for the gesture.”
