Sokoto: father and son died in a well

Tragedy struck in Sokoto State, Wednesday when a middle-aged man, Mallam Umar and his son, Abubakar died in a well they were digging.

This happened in Gidan-Filani, a village close to Wamakko local government area in the state. According to eyewitness, both of them dug up to nine metres, when the well collapsed and trapped Abubakar who was inside it. Umar who could not rescue his son despite entering the well died alongside him.

The Secretary of Tippers Drivers Association, Sokoto chapter, Alhaji Abu Maitifas who was at the scene of the tragic incident said the bodies have been recovered by officials of the Sokoto State Fire Service and the men are indigenes of Lokobi village, in the local government area.

Alhaji Ibrahim Dingyadi, director general of the state’s fire service after confirming what happened said it is “unfortunate.”
