Mr. Gabriel Nomsha a pensioner with the Benue State Local Government Service has reportedly committed suicide due to his inability to cater for his family and pay his children’s school fees.
Mr. Mike Vembe, Chairman of Coalition of Local Government Pensioners, made this disclosure on Wednesday, at a peaceful protest following non-payment of pension by the state government.
“One of our members, Gabriel Nomsha, from Gwer West Local Government Area, committed suicide last week as a result of poverty and frustration.”
He explained that after the deceased had been screened, he came with the hope of collecting his pension but was disappointed when he wasn’t paid.
About 2,000 pensioners from across the state had slept at the gate of the government protesting non-payment of their money.
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who sympathised with the pensioners assured them he would do everything possible to clear their pension arrears.
