
The Federal Government, Saturday renamed the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as the Adebayo Adeyinka University after the late military governor of the old western region, General Adeyinka Adebayo.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s acting President announced this at the All Saints Anglican Church, Iyin-Ekiti during the funeral of Adebayo.

Osinbajo, said Adebayo’s bravery and exceptional military professionalism helped Nigeria to be a united nation today hence the renaming of the instution immortalise him.
Former Governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Lucky Igbinedion, James Ibori, and retired Gen. Zamani Lekwot, retired Col. Theophilus Bamigboye, Reuben Fasoranti and Ayo Fasanmi were at the service.
Others dignitaries included former governor of Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi, Edo and Ogun States, Adams Oshiomhole and Gbenga Daniel respectively.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Olu Falae; Alani Akinriade, Azubuike Ihejirika, Bamidele Olumilua, David Jemibewon, and Ike Nwachukwu.
Aliko Dangote, Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige and Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
NAN reports that the remains of Mr. Adebayo were committed to mother earth at his private residence in Iyin Ekiti with full military honours.
