Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), human rights lawyer, has written to Nigeria’s Acting President Yemi Osinbajo asking for the immediate release of Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shiites, and his wife, Zeinab, from illegal custody.
In a letter dated June 2, 2017, Falana stated that Osinbajo should “direct the Nigerian Army to investigate and prosecute the military personnel responsible for the brutal and callous massacre of the 347 members of the Shia Community at Zaria in December 2015.”
The human rights lawyer disclosed that El-Zakzaky had lost his right eye and could lose the second one, due to lack of quality healthcare in detention.
He also wrote that the DSS who have flouted court order, also stopped the cleric and his wife from seeing their lawyers
Falana in his letter demanded that former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) should be released from illegal detention.
