The AFRIMA jury has arrived in Nigeria.

The 13-man International Jury of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) arrived in Lagos on Wednesday, ahead of a weeklong adjudication process.

Following the closing of entries where 8,009 songs and videos were received for the fifth edition of the event, the jury’s responsibility would involve screening, categorizing, assessing, grading and selecting nominees into the 38 different regional and continental categories.

The nominees’ list will then be unveiled on Tuesday, August 14.

Bringing their span of experience and professionalism to play, the jurors have pledged to work with fairness and transparency. On the jury are veteran vocal coach, Joett, from Eastern Africa; veteran musician, Tabu Osusa from Kenya’ music executive, Charles Tabu from Central Africa; music programmer, and Omar Essaidi from Northern Africa, among others.

Meanwhile, the African Union, the International Committee of AFRIMA and the International AFRIMA jury have commisurated with the family of a former AFRIMA juror, the late Oskar Kidjo, a renowned singer, and music producer, who passed away on July 11, 2018.

In a condolence letter addressed to the Kidjo family, AFRIMA stated, “We laud his service towards the development of African music and in promoting and producing top Beninoise music artistes such as the multiple Grammy award winner and multi-talented musician, Angelique Kidjo.”
