
A 38-year-old German policewoman, Bibiana Steinhaus, who was promoted on Friday to the Bundesliga will become the first female referee in a premier league in Europe as she would officiate next season.
She has been a referee since 1999 and officiating as the fourth official in Bundesliga games and refereed in the final of the women’s London Olympic Games tournament between Japan and the United States,
“For every referee, whether a man or a woman, it is always a big goal to be able to whistle in the Bundesliga,” she told DFB.de.
Steinhaus and Englishman Howard Webb, 45, who refereed the 2010 World Cup final are reportedly dating.
