British high-jumper has died in a bike accident

Jamaican-born British Olympic high jump medallist, Germaine Mason, has died in a motorcycle crash in Jamaica on Thursday.

The Jamaican police said the 34-year-old athlete lost control of his motorbike while riding in Kingston and died immediately.

Mason had reportedly attended a party with some athletes, including Usain Bolt.

Bolt, who has been Mason’s friend since 2002 visited the scene after the accident.

Mason competed for Jamaica before he switched allegiance to Great Britain and won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Game.

Jamaica’s prime minister Andrew Holness who paid tribute to the high-jumper said in a tweet: “Our sincere condolences to the entire sporting fraternity.”

“Our sincere condolences to the entire sporting fraternity.”
